.....................................................--- New Side Bunks Part II ---

..........

Next a brace template was made from a piece of cereal box cardboard and traced on to some flat strap.......and.....

............ cut out and then.......

..........

...........welded to the upright.

..........

I also cut the top where I wanted it and welded a cap on the top. There should be no water get into these uprights, so I hope they last a while. They seem to be extremely strong and I can grab one and pull on it as hard as I can and rock the whole trailer from side to side. Later I also welded in a short brace across the angled weld part way up the upright. I'll show that on a later page. It is just a little more insurance.

..........

As previously mentioned there will be this back upright and one ahead of the axle. Connecting them will be two pieces of square tubing covered with 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a third piece of square tubing between the other two also covered with PVC pipe that will go from the rear most upright all the way forward to the "V" stop at the front of the trailer. In the picture above I've mocked up a short section to see if it is what I want. I'm holding it where I want to mount it and the other two to the upright to get an idea how I will make a bracket to hold them.

..........

These are the pieces to make the 4 brackets that will be mounted on the 4 uprights. The pieces with the holes in them will mount the square tubing/PVC piece and the short pieces are legs to be attached to the other pieces.

..........

Here are 3 of the 4 brackets welded up and ready to be......

..........

...........welded to the upright.

..........

Here a piece of PVC is mocked into position with some braces to hold it up and also away from the boat.

..........

This gives an idea how it will wrap around the boat. When the trailer is in the water the boat won't hit this tubing until it gets near the front of the trailer, but I'm hoping that this and some other vertical bunk pieces that I will be adding will help the boat settle down onto the trailer bunks. Hauling the boat up to my place in Utah from Phoenix Sparky said it took some time for the boat to settle down in the middle of the trailer. We are trying to minimize loading and un-loading and trailering issues as much as possible so that we don't get turned off by those hassles. Maybe al of this is a waste of time, but at least I'll feel like I tried.

..........

Once I had the PVC positioned to where I wanted it I could make the front upright in a similar manner to the rear one.

..........

A view of both uprights. In this area there will be three parallel sections of square tubing/pipe one above another with the middle one going all the way forward.
