........................................--- Radio/Cassette Installation ---

...............

Not much of a modification to look at, but one that has made us happy. I took the Plexiglas plate off of the little wall above the sink and made a plywood replacement that I cut out for a regular car radio/cassette player I had. I had to pull the floatation blocks out of this area and pull wires up from under the sink area on the inside of the hull for the power/ground wires and 4 sets of speaker wires. That wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be. With the wires pulled I replaced the floatation pieces and hooked the radio to them.

...............

The four sets of speaker wires were run back to the companionway area and hooked to speakers. I pulled the speakers out of a wrecked van I had bought for the running gear. I made some boxes for them and we laid two out in the cockpit while sailing and left the other two inside. This seemed to work well, so the next step might be to buy some waterproof ones for the outside and some others to mount on the inside two the right and left of the companionway over far enough that they can be recessed into the bulkhead there.

We have one of those cassette adapters that lets us play CD's over this system now, but the next step will be to get a sirius capable radio. We get some of the sirius stations now with our Dish TV at home and listen to them all day and like them. The radio would also be less current draw than playing cassettes or CD's.

Later when I put in permanent speakers and update the radio I'll also update this page.
