..........................................................................Walls Part I

.....

.................

I built all the walls laying flat on the concrete slab and this wall for the northeast corner of the building was the first one I built. It was built inside on the slab and moved outside the perimeter where it will be lifted by hand into place immediately after the front wall of the building is lifted into place by the backhoe. This will help to hold the front of the building in place as the two walls will meet at 90 degrees.

.................

This was the second wall finished and laid outside waiting for the front of the building on the other side of the building from the first wall.

.................

My high school buddy, Bob, from St. Louis showed up at this point for 2 weeks and we started together by building the front walls of the building down on the slab. Here we are raising the first section into place with the help of the backhoe. Just as we started this my good buddy Francois and his wife Mia showed up. They are from Belgium and come visit every year. Bob is on the right in the picture and Francois is standing on the left with me on the ground in front of him. Mia took the picture along with most of the rest of the pictures on this page. Thanks so much Bob, Francois and Mia for all the help.

.................

Here the first half of the front wall is up and we have just finished raising the outside northeast wall and are connecting them together and putting the nuts on the anchor bolts. John, the backhoe guy is on the left of the picture.

.................

Here we are raising the second half of the building front.

.................

.................

Just finishing with the second half of the front.

.................

I made an A-Frame for the front of my jeep that uses the winch on the front bumper to lift heavy items, in this case this wall. Except for the front wall which was raised with the backhoe all the other walls were raised with the jeep. After my helpers left it allowed me to raise walls and beams by myself.

.................

We have just finished raising the southeast corner wall and are connecting it to the front wall. This gives support to both walls.

.................

Here we are going back and adding the center section to the front wall. Bob is on the ground with the air hose and Francois is up top getting ready to laugh if I shoot a nail into my foot with the nail gun.

.................

Here is the finished front at this stage. I left two sheets of wafer board out of the middle as I was afraid of the wind blowing things down at this point. I have some bracing at the bottom to help in high winds.
