...........................................................................The Pour
.....
.................
I had considered pouring the concrete myself with a helper as I've done it before, but this was a lot of concrete and I would have had to make a lot of small pours in order to have finished them by myself. I decided the expense of having a crew come in for the one day was really worth it. It saved me probably a month and a lot of frustration and pain. I'll do the sunroom pour and the other outside pads myself, but I'm really glad I hired a crew for this big one.
You can see in the picture above the various drain pipes that were laid earlier coming through the cement and also the cut-out for the bathtub along with the anchor bolts near the sides to secure the exterior walls to the slab.
.................
I still ended up working with them all day that is why the only pictures are at the end of the pour. I had my forms all marked for where I wanted my perimeter anchor bolts for the exterior walls (see previous picture) and I placed those as the pour when on and helped where I was needed.
.................
As you can see I used two different colors of cement. I wanted my shop floor to be colored to get away from the basic gray. I had done this in another house and in my store and was very happy with it. It took two trucks for the color and another truck for the gray. The gray is in the living quarters part of the house and will have a finish floor above it, so the gray won't be seen there when the house is done. The color adds some to the cost of the concrete, so I only used the color where I needed it. The color also costs different amounts for different colors and different shades of those colors. I picked a color that added less than $10 per yard of concrete and feel this is a good deal as I don't ever have to paint the floor and if the floor is chipped the color goes all the way through..................
In the picture above you can see the lowered part of the floor on the right where the 2 X 2's were used as floating forms. This will be a separate garage area in the shop part of the house with walls running where the 2 X 2's are now. The pipe sticking out in the foreground is where the water line will run out to the well.
From the pictures I guess you can tell the shop/garage (red cement) is going to be larger than the living quarters (gray cement), but don't forget the sunroom part hasn't been poured yet. The final size will be about 1600 sq. ft. for the shop and 1300 sq. ft. for the living quarters.
