.......................... Bed and Bathroom Tongue & Groove

.....

.................

The next order of business was finishing at least the bedroom and bathroom so we could move in and quit paying rent. This meant putting the tongue and groove aspen on the walls. Trimming out the doors and windows with cedar and laying 1/2 inch particle board over the 5/8 inch wafer board that was the sub-floor. I then sealed the particle board and laid 12 inch square adhesive vinyl tile over that.

In the picture above you can see Francois, who comes yearly from Belgium with his lovely wife Mia, nailing up some of the tongue and groove with the finish nail gun.

.................

While Francois was here along with Gerard, who is from France and also comes once a year or so, I decided that this was a great time to get the tongue and groove up on the ceiling of the sunroom. Guys your help was much appreciated!! I'm on the small ladder trying to get the nail gun working and Francois is patiently holding a board in place waiting for me and Gerard finds the whole thing amusing. Thanks Mia for taking the picture. A year before this Gerard and Francois helped me pour the floor that we are standing on in the sunroom along with my high school buddy, Bob from Missouri.

I was really in a hurry to get the bedroom and bath done so I forgot to take construction pictures. The following are the finished rooms.

This is a picture looking from the bedroom into the bathroom. I also didn't take pictures of laying the tile, but you can see the finished product in these pictures.

.................

Just inside the door from the bedroom into the bath is the area for the washer and dryer on the right.

.................

This is looking into the bath from the hall doorway. You can get to the bath from either the bedroom or hall. The wall to one side of the toilet has the tub/shower behind it.

.................

A view of the tub/shower. There is one layer of sheetrock on the wall behind the tub and the toilet which was then covered with the tongue and grooved aspen. Above the tub I also covered the first layer of sheetrock with a second layer just below the T&G by the ceiling.

.................

To the left of the tub is a closet which will get shelves from the top to bottom. To the left is the doorway into the bedroom.

.................

Looking into the bedroom from the hallway at the north wall, with window and west wall. This is about the best picture of the flooring also. We like the ease of keeping a floor like this clean and will use small area rugs on it.

.................

The west wall with the larger window required as a fire exit and the two closets. The one on the right is for cloths and the left one will have a shelve for a TV with drawers below that.

.................

The second closet with the door into the bathroom.

.................

The door to the bath on the left and into the hallway on the right.

This is a good view of how the tongue and groove on the walls ties into the beams and ceiling joists for a different ceiling treatment than you usually see.

I'm sure someone else must have done it, but I came up with the idea when I built my house in Wyoming and wanted to use sawdust/wood chips as insulation and was worried about the weight pulling the sheetrock down if the sheetrock was nailed on below the ceiling joists. I had 10 tons of sawdust in that house (only cost $40 for a semi load from the sawmill) and 16 inches in the ceiling. It worked great.

At this point, on the 1st of November, we moved into the house with only the bath and bedroom finished. We setup a temporary kitchen in the sunroom, hooked up the wood burning stove and we were in business. It wasn't done, but it sure was good to finally be in our new home.
