...............................................--- Mast Wiring ---

Ruth and spend almost every night on a trip on anchor and hated the mast wires slapping around inside the mast. It seemed to bother me more than her though. When I rewired the mast with new wiring for the lights and for the VHF I decided to try something and see if it might work.

We have some dryfast foam we had gotten from the foamfactory and used for the cockpit cushions, love them. I took the cheap electric carving knife I'd use to shape the cushions and cut pieces of foam down to semi round pieces in steps. This took just a couple minutes.

Next a hole was pierced near the center with a knife and enlarged with a felt tipped pen. The the two wires were inserted and...

.... the foam was pushed down the wire.

Finally I had the foam along the whole line every couple feet. Still this was like an hour job. I pulled the new wires through the mast using the old wiring. I think somewhere up the mast the foam started to catch like where the forestay attaches and there is no foam above that point. Still we have heard no wiring slap inside the mast since we did this.
