.............................................--- Monitor Screen Shots ---

I felt the key to this build was the monitor. We wanted a monitor that didn't draw much power and had a screen large enough that it would be bigger than the majority of chartplotters on the market, yet it had to be small enough to fit in the companionway entrance where it would be out of the weather. If the weather became bad it could be easily moved further into the cabin. We also wanted it large enough to use as the computer screen in the cabin and also to watch movies and TV on.

The choice narrowed down to an 8 inch or this 10 inch. I cut a piece of cardboard the size of the 10 inch and we determined that it wouldn't block the companionway that much, so went with it. There aren't a lot of 10 inch 12 volt monitor out there.

Below I show it hooked up to a laptop running SeaClear II with 2 different NOOA charts of the Florida Keys loaded.

.........

The monitor is a 10.4 inch Car Or Desktop TFT-lCD Monitor with Touch Screen for Car PC's made by Shark. We ordered it from ( HERE ). You can get some idea of it's 10 inch diagonal screen from the size of the mouse. The chart loaded is a NOOA chart of southern Florida and the keys. Next I ......

...took the mouse and clicked on Marathon and SeaClear loaded the "best chart" for the area I clicked on. Above is the chart that covers the Marathon area zoomed out.

.........

Next I zoomed in some and took this picture. The glow at the lower right is from the ceiling lights in the bed room. Earlier in the day I had the monitor by the window and the screen was still good. I haven't tried it in direct sunlight yet, but don't plan on using it that way.

.........

Here I've zoomed in further at the bay at Marathon.

.........

This is maximum zoom level using SeaClear, but the picture is not true screen size.

.........

Here is a shot that should show close to full screen size depending on the monitor you are viewing this on. Measure the picture diagonally and if it is 10 inches this is about what you would get viewing the monitor. I used the monitor on the Internet and to install SeaClear and the NOOA charts. It is a nice monitor.

.........

Notice how much larger the screen is than the hand held 76?

.........

If I can get all of this to work it is going to be nice.
