....................--- Original Double Doodie Bag Head Part II ---
...............
Here the head hole is being cut out. The top arrow points to the outline of the toilet seat and the left arrow points to the outline of the bucket. The bucket circle that is being cut out is a little smaller in diameter than the bucket. I spent some time finding the place for the bucket/seat hole where the bucket could be the tallest working within the confines of the sloping hull side.
...............
One hole hopefully in the right place.
...............
The inside and outside lip of the hole were rounded a little with a router.
...............
The seat is screwed on to the platform from below.
...............
A view showing the seat from below. The mounting screws have not been put in place at this point.
...............
Four 2 X 2 pieces of redwood were screwed onto the seat board to locate it in the hole so that it wouldn't move around. Of course it is upside down in this picture to show the locator boards. I had considered a hinge for the back of this board, but like being able to lift it out for cleaning and such.
...............
Here it is in place and it doesn't slide around at all.
...............
Two of the locator boards had to be cut out for clearance of the lid on the bucket and I was careful to make this a good clearance fit on the lid as these along with some others we will add in a minute locate the top of the bucket so that it can't move.
...............
This is the platform that the bucket sits on and it also has locator boards (middle group of arrows) that located the bottom of the bucket and stop it from moving around. The two right arrows point to the angled ends of the platform support boards that rest against the side of the hull. The left arrow points to a piece that fits against the side of the seat well inboard.
...............
Here the platform is resting in the bottom of the seat well.
...............
This is the point where I used an old sheetrock joint compound bucket I had and cut it to 10 inches high. It also has thicker walls that the first bucket I bought. Find some one that hangs sheetrock or finishes it and you could pick up a ton of these probably free. I cut the bucket at about 11 inches high with the saber saw and then marked the 10 inch height around it and cut to that line with tin snips.
...............
Here is the Double Doodie bag system. There is a heavy gray bag with a zip top that is the outer bag. You reach in it and pull out this black bag and put it over the lip of the bucket. The gray bag is in the bottom and attached to this black one.
...............
Here the lid is in place and since the bucket is a little larger in diameter at the 10 inch height than at the 8 it now snaps into place and you can actually lift the "empty" bucket by the lid sides. I'm happy that it will seal out any odors there might be.
...............
Here you can see how the bucket/bag fits under the seat. The arrow points to the powder that comes in the bottom of the bag. It converts what you do in the bucket into a jell. I've been told that for this to work don't worry about going number 1 in the bucket and that it needs some of that to work.
...............
Here is one of the boxes the bags come in and the arrow points to the gray outer bag that someone is pulling the inner bag out of. When you think you shouldn't put any more in the bag you fold the outer black bag into the gray one and zip it shut and dispose of it. We will have several container on board depending on how long we will be out to hold these filled bags. One will be in a container next to this one in the same seat well and if that becomes filled then it will be emptied into a Rubbermaid type container that is lined with a couple trash bags. When we return we will pull the trash bags and dump them in a dumpster which to my surprise is legal, in part because of the bio gel I guess. I'm guessing that the bags themselves are going to take up almost as much room in our storage containers as the contents, so if we are out on say Lake Powell for a couple weeks this could require a couple of the Rubbermaid containers. I'll report back on this issue.
...............
Here I have the seat platform removed to show the container with the top on the bucket. In use the platform just hinges up to remove or replace the top.
...............
I took some pains to get the bucket height just right so that with the platform down it is pressing lightly on the top of the bucket lid for a good continuous seal.
...............
A view of this area almost done.
...............
The top and bottom arrows point to the original pieces that locate the platform and the lid and the side arrows point to additional pieces of redwood that located the sides of the lid. By locating the lid I've located the bucket from moving while in place.
...............
Here I've added supports/bracing to the bucket platform so that it can't move from side to side, fore and aft or up. The top middle arrow points to the board that is up against the seat upright. The other tow arrows point to the uprights that also locate the bucket platform. The inside of the platform rests on the top of the glassed area that goes towards the ballast tank. That and the hull sides dictated the usable depth of this area that determined the bucket height.
...............
Here the bucket is in place.
...............
And one last picture.

Coming next will be the pictures of how I finished this area off.....
