...........................................--- V-Berth Storage Part I ---

..............

On our first trip to McPhee Reservoir we had clothes in bags and all over by the sides of the bed. Something better had to be done before our trip to Idaho and Canada. I added storage right behind the food storage unit and on the port side of the head mattress for the V-Berth that was located where the head use to be.

..............

The left arrow points to the food storage unit and the bottom arrow points to the enlarged V-Berth area that has storage under it. The right arrow points to the new port side clothing storage area. Later another top shelf will continue from the right arrow forward towards the bow up to where the floatation compartment is.

A view looking back towards the V-Berth port side storage.

..............

After finishing the clothes storage on the port side (previous picture) I started on one for the bed side of the sink wall (right arrow) and also the starboard side wall (top left arrow). The other two arrows point to the end of the bed area that lifts to get to the storage under it.

..............

I used some tape to put some vertical reference lines where I wanted the one storage unit's walls to be.

..............

Here the sides have been cut out along with shelf supports.

..............

A test fitting.

..............

The shelves have been added.

..............

Here the redwood facing has been put on the front of the shelves for looks and to provide a lip to hold the clothes in.

..............

The shelf in place. It will be stained and cleared later as time permits. The left arrow points to a 12 volt outlet that will go where the right arrow is.

..............

Running out of time before the July '09 trip I quickly added a side extension to the unit finished to the right of it. The bottom right arrow points to the new forward mattress that extends the V-Berth into the area where the head use to be. The middle arrow on the bottom points to where there is a 3 socket 12 volt plug receptacle. I use one for my CPAP machine that is store along with the distilled water for it to the left where the bottom left arrow is pointing. The two left arrows point to where I later added another shelf that ran forward towards the bow. It is documented on another page.

Here are the two storage units in use on..............

......or Idaho/Canada trip. We had all of the cloths we were using while sailing in them. We would wash some of our clothes out each day so that we didn't have to carry as much. We were on Priest Lake in Idaho for 12 days and then washed clothes at a Laundromat in Sand Point before we put in on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake in B.C., Canada for 12 days also. The added storage I'll build on the sides forward will help to better organize all of this.

..............

After our 2009 Idaho/Canada trip I went back and made the wall storage unit on the starboard side a little nicer with a new end piece that fit the hull better and...........

..............

..................... added redwood facings to the two top shelves and added a 1 X 2 facing to the bottom to keep things out of the way when I lifted the mattress and front bed platform to get to the storage under that area.

..............

I still have to pull the ends off and stain and clear them when the time is available. Next you will see the additional side storage I added at this same time that extends towards the bow on both sides. Check out the next page.
