............................................ Motor Mounts Part II

.......................

Having finished the top left two motor mounts and top rear motor mounts I moved to the bottom rear and top right side motor mounts this past week. I started with the bottom rear shown here. I attached two tabs to the frame and then made a link to go from one tab to the bottom of the motor that is attached with the allen screw above. It is temporarily there to center the mount hole on the motor hole as I had no long 10 mm bolts. I then made a second piece that tied into the first at a near 90 degree angle. This way I have prevented movement both side to side and front to back.

.................................

I tied these two pieces together with a top piece to help add rigidity.

...........................

Next to take care of vertical movement I weld a tab further up on the frame and mounted a strap to it and then welded (just tacked at this point) that strap to the previous ones I had just finished.

..........................................

After removing it from the car I finished welding it into one piece.

.........................

On the left side I began by tacking a plate to the frame below the left bottom mount hole on the motor (arrow). I'll finish welding it later.

....................................

At the same time I cut and drilled the piece in the last picture I made an identical piece for the removable part of the mount. I welded another piece to the top of it with a hole in it for the motor mount hole. Then I cut and welded a piece at 90 degrees to the last piece and made a top cap to help tie the pieces together.

.........................

Here you can see the removable top mount bolted to the motor and the plate on the frame. To the right (see arrow) is the end of the right motor mount that I made further up this page.

..........................

The last mount was the front top mount on the right side of the motor. I welded a tab to the frame and then started making the mount with a piece of strap from the motor down (top arrow) and another from the frame up (bottom arrow).

........................................

I tied those two piece together with some square tubing and then added a tab to the square tubing and to the frame further up (see arrow) to triangulate this piece somewhat.

The Left side.

The top looking towards the back of the car. At this point most of the wiring and cables are draped over the top of the motor out of the way. Next I will lift the motor out and see if I can get it out. I have some concerns with the side cases and clearance. Even if the motor comes out ok I might make one of the top rails (see arrows) removable for easier installation and removal of the motor (one reason the top rail on the left side of the picture isn't done). I think for sure I would have to do this if I put a 'busa motor in the car. At that point I might move the motor forward and run a jack-shaft between it and the rear-end. If the current motor goes in and out ok I'll probably finish the frame as it is now and look at re-working the frame in this area as the need arises in the future.
