............................. Final Sheetrock in Shop & House

.....

.................

Months ago I sheetrocked the raised ceiling area of the shop and also the garage area on the north side of the shop. Now in Sept. 2003 I am getting the rest of the ceiling finished in the shop and the walls in the shop and storage room done. I need to get this sheetrock up and at least one layer of tape and mud before we will be allowed to move into the house. All of the ceilings and wall between the shop and living quarters needed to be 5/8 for a fire block and to meet code. The rest of the walls are 1/2 inch.

.................

First I insulated all the areas that I couldn't get to later such as the walls and the area next to the raised ceiling. I use 6 inches of fiberglass in the walls and 10 inches in the ceiling. I will blow in insulation in the rest of the ceiling later.

After the insulation came the polyethylene 6 mill vapor barrier that you see here on the wall to the left and on the ceiling. The other wall is the kitchen wall and the vapor barrier was placed on the kitchen side of that wall.

After I insulated I hung the sheetrock with the help of the sheetrock jack, shown in the picture and one helper. This took a couple days.

.................

Here you see that the ceiling is done and the walls are started.

The openings in the wall to the right go into the greenhouse and allow hot air out of the green house into the shop during the day for heating. There are also two openings down low that you can't see that let cool air flow from the shop floor into the greenhouse to complete the loop on the air flow.

As I right this in October I'm really happy with the heat from the greenhouse. On a sunny day it really warms the shop up nice with no other heat..

A picture looking towards the outside south entrance door and kitchen wall.

Looking at the southeast corner of the shop. On the left you can see all of the boxes for lighting and power I talked about on the last page.

.................

Looking west down the shop from the garage door towards the kitchen wall. You can see the raised ceiling for the lift and cutout for one of the lift posts above my pickup.

.................

The kitchen/shop wall with a workbench I'm just finishing. To the right you can see the Main Breaker Box with the GFI outlets below it. Above the box near the ceiling you can see the main cold water supply line coming from the pressure tank that feeds to the house plumbing and hot water heater. You can also see the line in the next picture.

.................

The deep sink for cleaning in the shop with the door into the house to the right and the door into the storage room to the right of that door.

.................

At this time I also sheetrocked the living quarters side of the wall that separates the shop and the kitchen with 1/2 inch sheetrock. The wall on the right is the shop wall and the wall straight ahead is the short kitchen wall for the frig, stove and counter. Sheetrocking the shop wall on the kitchen side was not required as a fire stop as I have 5/8's on the shop side, but I'm hoping it will cut down on shop noise in the house. Most of it will be covered with tongue and grooved aspen and cabinets when the kitchen is finished.

I also did the bath walls on the north side and east side towards the shop with 1/2 green waterproof sheetrock for noise and moisture reasons.

.................

I sheetrocked the walls and the ceiling in the greenhouse also with the waterproof sheetrock.

I had a helper help me with the ceiling in the shop and some of the walls, but most of the walls I was able to put up by myself. I used the helper and jack to do all the big areas that used 12 foot long pieces and then let the helper go and took the jack back and filled in everything else myself.
