......................--- Anchor Chocks for Bow Rollers ---
=======================================================
There are times when leaving the rode in the anchor rollers might not be the best thing to do and also times with two anchors out that the rodes can start to twist on one another if the boat turns around while anchored due to wind or current.
The boat came with two side chocks on the bow, but they had to be removed to install the double anchor roller assembly. On this page we will relocate them to the sides of the assembly and be back in business with them again. I'm very glad that this was done as the side chocks continue to play a large role in some anchoring situations.
.......
Some heavy aluminum angle was used ....
.......
... to make up the mounts for the ....
.......
... chocks.
.......
They were then bolted onto the arms of the bow rollers. The rode can enter the chock and then ...
.......
... go around and beside the smooth surface of the pulpit upright and back to the side cleat.
.......
The photo above shows how the rode can pass the back side of the posts that were made if you want to take the line to the aft side of the side cleat.
.......
The posts make for a smooth transition or you can also...
.......
... take the line to the fore side of the cleat by passing around the curved end of the arm and in front of the post.
.......
Either way works fine. You can also see the large washers used to mount the chocks to the side of the arms above.
.......
Once the anchor is on board the pin above is inserted to secure it and the pin itself is pinned on the inboard side, right arrow.
.......
The pin keeps the anchor onboard and also keeps it from rocking up and down underway.

A view of the 22 lb. claw anchor and ...
.......
.. of the 25 lb. Manson Supreme.
.......
Again the forward support going down to the bow makes the whole assembly very strong and rigid.
.......
A pin is only used on the plow side as the Manson's shank lays flat without one. Both anchors are also secured via the carabiner hooks, right arrows, which are tied off to the center cleat. You don't want to loose an anchor over the side underway.
.......
We also always take a couple wraps of chain around the side cleats and then the chains go into the .....
.......
.... rode bags that are....
.......
.... also secured so that the chain/rode can't go over the side in rough weather.
.......
In the picture above, taken in Florida, you can see how using the chocks takes all of the strain off of the bow rollers when you are anchored in a Bahamian Moor with....
.......
... the rodes going off to the sides of the boat and not forward. Also if the boat turns 360 degrees while anchored and the lines twist you can move them to the chock on the opposite side as shown above. Final word is make sure you still have chocks on the bow as you will need them.
