...................................--- Lazarette Ventilation/Blower ---

The Coast Guard's ventilation requirements with a 'vented fuel tank' in the lazarette are a little confusing, but I wanted the option to be able to ventilate the compartment if needed, so put in ventilation and a blower.

.......

I decided on one of these vents for each side of the laz above the the rub rail. I'd seen where MrBill had done something similar (thank Bill). I started by putting the vent up there and marking around it with a felt tip pen. This is the port side of the boat, just behind the outboard well and ahead of the bulkhead.

.......

This is the starboard side.

The arrow points to the fitting that the cords go through to get to the ........

.......

.......depth finder that hangs on the lifeline on this side of the cockpit.

.......

The holes were cut very quickly using a carbide bit in an air die grinder.

.......

Here the vent is test fitted.

.......

4 stainless wood screws were used on the port side and stainless machine screws were used on the starboard side. It would be hard to get to the nuts on the port side and that vent just sits there whereas the starboard side vent has the blower hose hanging on it.

.......

Here the starboard vent has been screwed into place. There is a slight ridge just below the ridge that I worried about getting a good seal on, but using 3M 4200 fast dry and pulling the screws up took care of that.

.......

The inboard side on the starboard side with the arrow again pointing to the fitting for the cord that goes to the depth finder.

.......

The port side from the outside and....

.......

.... from the inside. You could put nuts on over here, but not easy.

.......

The Rule Marine Model 140 in-line 3 inch blower (all of these parts were bought from Defender Marine). The blower is mounted to a board that is mounted to the fuel tank mounts.

.......

The hose is held to the vent via a zip tie on the top.

.......

Regs require the pickup to be in the lower 1/3 of the compartment and I routed the hose down there and attached it to the tank mount with a small board that traps it there.

.......

It it pretty much out of the way where it is, but later I'll probably box it in a little to keep it from getting closed off.

.......

An overall view.

.......

The blower is controlled by the top switch on this panel just inside the cabin by the computer/chart plotter. If you put the switch in the laz make sure it has a fire proof/spark proof rating.
