If you are going to put disc brakes on you need to make sure your hub is stepped like this one at the right arrow. The disc brake hubs have a smaller outer bearing that rides on the spindle to the right of the right arrow and a larger inner bearing that rides on the surface to the left of that arrow. The left arrow points to where the hubs inner seal rides.

Also you need to weld on a......

.. a bracket like the one above that the arrow is pointing to. Your disc brake caliper bracket bolts to that welded on bracket. The picture above is the end of the new axle I made for our trailer when we added a second one behind the factory axle. I bought a spindle that had the brake bracket already welded to it. I then had to machine the stub end of the spindle a little to get it to fit inside of the thick wall 2 inch square tubing. The stub axle was then welded to the square tubing around the end of the tubing and also plug welded on each side of the square tubing. Last a spring mount/locator was welded to the axle.
