................................................................--- Storage Shelf Above Fridge In Galley ---
............................................................................................................--- Part I ---
When we are out we usually like keeping chips, cookies and cereal in...
................
...the large plastic jars shown above on our Mac. We needed a place to put them on the Endeavour and decided on building a storage shelf for them above the fridge/freezer.
............................
Above is an end view of the support for the end of the shelf towards the center of the boat.
..............
The right arrow above points to the jars we would like to store. I started by ripping an upright from some redwood that I had brought to the boat yard with us and used a dado blade to put a slot most of the way from the top to down near the bottom. The main end piece drawn above would be sunk into the slot on that side.
..............
The bottom of the upright was notched to fit against the bulkhead there.
..............
A screw was used at the top to anchor the upright into the cabin top and ...
..............
.... a couple of screws, top arrows, were used to suck the upright against the bulkhead. The bottom screws go through the bulkhead into the side of the fridge/freezer.
.............................
The end wall was put into the slot on the upright and held there with a couple screws on the other side that were driven through this piece and into the upright.
..............
A piece of cedar was cut and used on one side of the end wall and screwed into the cabin top. A router was used on the one edge to give it a little character.
..............
The back side, arrow, was cut at a slight angle since the cabin top slopes down some. When finished the end wall is screwed into this piece from the other side and the screw heads are...
..............
.... covered up by another trim piece on the other side of the wall that is then...
..............
... also screwed into the cabin top.
..............
Next a piece was measured and cut for the outboard end of the shelf. The shelf will rest on the piece shown by the arrow. It was...
..............
... screwed to the plywood from the back side.
..............
The finished piece was screwed on between the two portals. I did a lot of measuring and think about this as I want to be able to work the ports easily with the shelf in place and had to get to the releases, top two arrows.
Also the shelf had to be wide and long enough for six of the storage jars, bottom arrow.
