.......................................T--- THE MOTOR ---

As I already mentioned my original plan a couple years ago was to power my lakester with a small block chevy. Then I would run the V-8 on only 4 cylinders to move down to the 3 liter (183 cid) class. Others have done this with mixed success. Since I'm in the tourist business, which hasn't been doing that well, and I'm about ready to retire I felt that going that route was going to take some time financially to achive. Also there are a number of really good import 3 liter motors to now choose from, but since there aren't a lot of speed parts made for them like the SBC that route would also be expensive.

By moving to the motorcycle motor I feel I'm cutting down on a lot of costs as you can get a very good one stock for the price of a set of after market SBC heads. Also the car will be smaller which makes building it and storing it easier on me.

The motor I purchased came from a 2002 Suzuki GSX-R 750. Stock it puts out a little over 125 hp at 12,500 rpm, so it should be a good motor for me to work with, without a lot of initial modifications.

It weighs about 100 lb. and is only about 20 inches wide.

I feel going this route allows me to concentrate on the car and rest of the drive train first. Have some fun and later try and build a more powerful motor.

It is a 4 cylinder with a bore and stroke of 72.0 mm (2.834 in) X 46.0 mm (1.811 in) and displaces 749cc (45.7) cu. in., just getting me in the J class of .75 liters. It is a Four-stroke, Liquid-cooled, DOHC motor with a 6 speed transmission. The exhaust header is 4 into 2 into 1. The compression ratio is 12.0 : 1.

At first I plan on running the motor unblown on gas which will put me in the J/GL class (.75 liter/Gas Lakester). The motor runs a radiator, but I plan to use a water tank instead.

Later I hope to change to a blown class (J/BGL) with the same motor. I plan on making a new intake track for larger than stock injectors that will use a single throttle body to control the air and I'll switch computers, probably to a MegaSquirt. I have 2 turbos now that might work with the motor to begin with (one at a time of course).
