Burkland's streamline (2 engines/4 wheel drive) has looked like a car that could do great things and this year they showed what it is capable of at the World of Speed meet in September. The numbers the car posted, 438 mph in the 5th mile with an exit speed of 450 mph, are huge. No other wheel driven car (piston or turbine) has ever posted numbers like these. The car was unable to back these numbers up for a new record, since it had chute problems trying to get stopped at the end of the run. The car finally stopped out in the mud and soft salt at around the 11 mile point and was slightly damaged.
I for one can't wait for 2001 to roll around and congratulations to the Burkland crew for what they have accomplished.
