......................................................Top Dead Center Finder
.............While building the 383 SBC I made a few tools to help. These were made when I decided to "degree" the cam, just so I knew what that was all about. I had a nut that went on the front of the crank to turn the motor over, but I couldn't really get to it with the degree wheel on since I didn't have an open end wrench that large. I made this spacer. It has a recess on the front for the degree wheel to center itself in.

Here it is installed.............................
I wanted to use a dial indicator on the lifter and made this extension to fit on the top of the lifter. It indexes into the top and sits on the wall of the lifter and the retaining clip. This way I don't have to worry about the hydraulic lifter compressing at all, although I don't see how it could with just the indicator pushing on it.
..............Here it is installed on the intake lifter on cylinder #1.

I also needed a piston stop to find Top Dead Center. I made this out of a piece of scrap I had. The ledge was in it already so it serves no purpose and also the hole to the left of the center bolt was in the scrap, so it serves no purpose. The hole.....

............ that is threaded is so I can move the bolt over there if I want. For instance the piston in the picture is dished. I can locate either off of the dish or the flat area to the left of it.

Here is everything in place. I degreed the cam and it was right on the specs., so I did all of this for nothing, but I'm glad I made the tools and learned how to degree the cam in.
