..................................CD-1 Speed Week (2001-2006) Pictures

...........................................................--- 1355 Still Pictures ---

Sumner’s Pictures 2001 to 2006 (1082 pictures):

2001 Sumner’s Speed Week Pictures (280 pictures) -- A lot of car detail pictures of suspension, cages, chutes, etc. and not too many pictures of just cars on the salt. If you are building a car or thinking about building one these pictures can probably help.

2002 Sumner’s Speed Week Pictures (135 pictures) -- Here again a lot of car detail pictures of suspension, cages, chutes, etc. and not too many pictures of just cars on the salt.

2003 Sumner’s Speed Week Pictures (95 pictures) -- Most years I have a number of friends that come by my place in SE Utah a couple days early and we then drive up to the salt together. You are welcome to join us. The first pictures in this set kind of show what we do in Blanding together and also include a stop at Bo Huff’s on the way to the salt. The rest are detail pictures of cars showing details of construction.

2004 Sumner’s Speed Week Pictures (54 pictures) -- Sorry, but most of these pictures are of the first trip to the salt for Hooley with his Stude. Being there with a car really limits you in getting around to see other cars. You might get tired of seeing the orange car in this set and also in 2005.

2005 Sumner’s Speed Week Pictures (69 pictures) -- I did manage to get some more pictures of other cars in 2005 besides what we were doing, but not as many as in 2001 to 2003. Still there are some useful pictures here that could help you. All of the last shots are of Rick Yacoucci’s 350+ mph motorcycle powered streamliner.

2006 Sumner’s Speed Week Pictures (449 pictures -- cars and bikes) -- I managed to get back on track here and get pictures of other cars. Unlike 2001 to 2003 I had to take most of these pictures while we were in line waiting to run, so most of these pictures are of cars in line, ready to run and not tore apart in the pits. There are some of those type pictures besides. This year I also took quite a few motorcycle pictures.

2007 Sumner’s Speed Week Pictures (332 pictures -- cars and bikes)

2004 Bob Immler (266 pictures): Bob sent me pictures and videos (2nd CD) from 2004. He took some great pictures and videos and they are included on these 2 CD’s. Part of the proceeds from the sale of these pictures will go to Bob. Thanks Bob for sharing. His pictures are broke down into the following categories by him and are a very good overall picture of going to Speed Week. I don't think you will be disappointed in either his still pictures or videos. Bikes (24 pictures) -- Coupes (16 pictures) -- Indy Type Cars (3 pictures) -- Lakester (1 pictures) -- Misc.-1 (5 pictures) ) -- Misc.-2 (9 pictures) ) -- Roadsters (11 pictures) -- Salt Under Water (8 pictures) -- Spectators (67 pictures) -- Sports Cars (25 pictures) -- Streamliners (41 pictures) -- Studes (18 pictures) -- Trucks (4 pictures) -- Vintage (13 pictures) -- Wendover (21 pictures)

2005 Gary Hart’s Stude (7 pictures): 6 of these pictures I took at Gary’s house in Missouri when I was at my mom's house. The pictures are of his twin turbo big block that I feel will run over 250 and get him his red hat. He already has a record over 200 with the car, but failed to reach the 200 mph club minimum for the class. I think he has that covered now. The car ran an easy 235 in 2006 before blowing a radiator hose and ending his Speed Week effort. The one other picture is his Buick that holds records at both Bonneville and Maxton.

This concludes the still pictures that are on the first CD. Now if you buy the 1st CD (listed above) for $10.00 plus $2.00 shipping and handling I’ll send a second CD free that contains the following:

..........CD-2 Speed Week and Bub (free with order of CD-1)

.....................................( 215 Videos and 308 Still Pictures)

If you order the first CD (CD-1 above), then you will receive this CD free. It is basically two parts. The first part is all videos and the second part is the BUB 2006 Motorcycle meet where the new world's fastest motorcycle was determined.

2004 Bob Immler (210 Videos): I feel Bob's videos that he took with a digital camera really help catch the essence of Speed Week in a way that still pictures can't capture. These are short video of about 10-15 sec. each, but I think you will find yourself watching them time and time again. He has them grouped as follows.

Bikes (11 Videos) -- Coupes (16 Videos) -- Indy Type Cars (5 Videos) -- Lakester (1 Videos) -- Misc.-1 (33 Videos) -- Misc.-2 (5 Videos) -- Misc.-3 (44 Videos) -- Roadsters (23 Videos) -- Spectators (3 Videos) -- Sports Cars (5 Videos) -- Streamliners (45 Videos) -- Studes (11 Videos) -- Trucks (2 Videos) -- Vintage (4 Videos) -- Wendover (2 Videos)

2006 Jim Rivers (5 Videos) of Hooley's 974 Stude Runs:

These videos are about 6 minutes long and were taken with two small helmet cameras that Jim brought with him and that we located at different places on the Studebaker and on my GMC push truck.

Video #1 (6 min 24 sec.) -- The first is out the back of the car from under the spoiler. It is the run where Hooley spins at 223 mph and is quite spectacular.

Video #2 (7 min 54 sec.) -- The second is from the front of the push truck and shows Hooley taking off down course and then the push truck going to retrieve him from the spin shown in video #1.

Video #3 (5 min 59 sec.) -- The third is again from the rear of the car under the spoiler and you get to ride along on the 3rd run of 2006 that resulted in a 227 mph average in the 4th mile before Hooley shut it off due to rising exhaust gas temperatures, which after looking at the data showed they were leveling off. These video show that it isn't a piece of cake driving a car on the salt.

Video #4 (5 min 22 sec.) -- This is the 3rd 227 mph run with the second camera focused on the dash, the shifter and the right side of the steering wheel. It adds another dimension to the run

Video #5 (6 min 3 sec.) -- This video was turned on too soon and just shows the car moving up to be the next car going down the course. I decided to leave it on the CD as it still gives you an idea of what goes on during staging the car to run.

2006 BUB Motorcycle Meet ( 308 Still Pictures):

When I saw that there was going to be 3 motorcycle streamlines at the 2006 Bub meet that all had the potential to raise the world motorcycle speed record I had to go and I sure wasn't disappointed. I took a lot of pictures of the three major contenders, but I also took quite a few pictures of other streamliners and bikes that ran at the meet. I think you will enjoy these pictures regardless of if you are a bike person or not. I have a story about this meet on my site ( HERE ) and an example of some of the pictures in this set of 308 pictures.

Note: If you don't have the software on your computer to view videos I would suggest you download a version of REAL PLAYER.......and.......If you don't have a program that is good to view pictures with I would suggest that you download IRFANVIEW from the Internet. I love this program. You can view pictures easily at a full screen at your own pace or setup a slide show with it.
