______..............___Teardrop Trailer Page 6

Tongue Detail Continued -- I have one part of the tongue that is welded to the trailer (Construction Page 4) and is made up of 2-1 X 2 pieces of .120 tubing welded together for extra strength in this area. I then have a front piece of 2 X 2 X .120 square tubing that is set up to be installed either above or below the other piece for different wheel/tire height combinations and/or different ball heights on the tow vehicle.

._

These pictures show the two pieces together. I have 4-7/16 bolts (will replace these with grade 8 later) holding the two together. I will add two side plates of 1/8 x 4 inch flat bar stock on each side of this union also later. One on each side with 4-1/2 inch bolts holding them on with the tongue sandwiched between them.

._

I will also later weld on an angled addition to the top tongue where it meets the bottom tongue to match the angled look of the back part of the top tongue. My wiring will exit the top part at this point and go into the bottom part. The angled addition will hide and protect the wiring.

I'm still not sure if I will go with the 2 inch coupler shown in the right picture and paint it to match the trailer or go with a plated one. It will bolt on so that when the removable part of the tongue is flipped over and put on the bottom it can also be flipped over. My wheeled swivel trailer jack and leveler jack will also flip over. When I finish these I'll add those pictures to this page.

._

The reason I haven't finished the rest of the tongue construction is because I had to get the trailer out of my small shop so I could work on my older teardrop. The two pictures above and the one below show the new tear hooked to the Jeep and headed to storage for awhile. c ya, Sum
